Change the filter!!!
I do quarterly.
Pretty sure PLZCallMeTED is
I was thinking Bro may be, too.
I think Clutch works in the same general field also.
Wasn't Clutch's AC repair for a sagging window unit to put a shoe underneath it?
I bet he walked around wearing one shoe all summer.
You ever see a mechanic that doesn't drive a total piece of shit?
I think I got it figured out. I'm 98% sure it's the capacitor but I'm no HVAC guy.
The fucking thing was squealing like a stuck pig yesterday and really hot to the touch and this morning it was DOA.
Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war
Nah. Bad cap would cause some serious buzz then thermal shutdown in a few seconds. Squealing sound like condenser fan bearing?
the condenser fan turns freely. there was a pretty loud buzzing/squeal yesterday and the fan wouldn't kick on so I shut it down.
after an hour or so I went out and spun the fan and it feels fine. I went in and turned it on and it sounded the same but I was able to get the fan to go with a kickstart from a twig.
I don't do HVAC
this morning there was no fan but the buzzing was gone. I literally just blew of the fan blade and off it went.
its been running ever since and sounds fine now. I know if I shut it down it'll do the same again so I've let it run all day.
I wonder if the resistance is way up on the motor making the cap strain? It doesn't seem to be blowing as hard as it did.
Man, I hate fucking with shit that's out of my comfort zone.
Those caps are for startup on single phase. That explains why it'll go if you help it get started. It's probably a split cap that feeds the compressor as well. They are cheap and easy to change. Give it a shot. Give me a brand/model and I can find out more.
That really angry guy PlzcallmeTed is a HVAC guy.
Watch out though, he gets really really angry.
