I bought my kid a cheapo Fender and he's done alright with it as a starter guitar. He always complains he has to spend more time tuning it than playing it and I'd like to get him a better one.

    His current guitar:

If he is putting in the effort to get better, get him something good. Get him a real Strat. You can get him a good used one at a reasonable price.

He doesn't seem to care for Strats (which kills me).

That's cool...the main thing is if he plays on a regular basis, get him something good. There is a big difference in a good guitar and a bad one.

hmmmmm....that's a tough one. I'd be more worried about coming home and seeing the look of shame on the dog after he chewed the thing in two pieces.

He's taking it very seriously. His teacher is very excited to have a student that has his level of drive.

He was all set to buy a bass but changed his mind at the last second so I don't want to dump serious cash yet.

Gus isn't allowed in his room and won't go in it even if the door is left open.

The good thing is, if you get a good deal on a guitar and it doesn't work out, you can always sell it for pretty much what you paid for it granted it isn't all tore up.

I guess what I'm asking is this an upgrade over a $150 "Fender":

comes with EMG humbuckers and available 26.5" scale or standard 25.5"! Great feel, and nice pearl bat inlays. Damien series rocks! Comes with 24 Medium/jumbo frets and black satin finish. Damien comes with a Floyd Rose tremolo! - Binding: none - Body: basswood - Bridge/Tremolo: TOM w/thru-body - Controls: volume/tone/3-way - Fingerboard: rosewood - Frets: 24 X-jumbo - Inlays: black pearl bats - Machine heads: grover - Neck joint: bolt-on - Neck material: maple - Pickguard: none - Pickups: EMG HZ H4/H4A set - Scale: 25 1/2" // 10
