(HS related because SXM is now on Roku) :)

The internet cost thread led to me thinking about how we all can save $$.

I really enjoy my Roku. I don't have a lot of idle TV viewing time, but the Roku player convinced me to drop the crappy cable channels entirely, and I've never missed them. I use a small antenna in my attic for over the air signals and a Roku to explore other channels. Without putting much effort into research I have about 120 channels saved, probably view about ten most of the time!

You can also use the device to view your Netflix, or Amazon Prime subscriptions, etc. There are hundreds of "hidden channels" that one can go online to get the code and add to your player if you wish. That's an area I looked into a bit about a year ago but need to revisit.

With the Media Player apps you can access an external drive and play movies, etc. Pretty cool device.

If you use a Roku, please share your experience and any cool channels or programs we should look into.

Roku, Apple TV, etc.. are all great except for one thing: As a guy who loves college football and sports in general, I'm pretty much fucked without ESPN and to get it, I need a cable subscription.

Yeah, I kicked basic cable to the curb! It was $70 a month.
I hardly watch TV...always on the net, so I bought a Roku and sometimes watch Netflix (cousin's account), HBOGO (friend's account), Huluplus (I pay $8) & Crackle is free.

I have one and I love the idea, but it is on my upstairs TV and I never use it. At least they are cheap. I got mine on Woot....might be refurbished. I like it but with TIVO I get a lot of the stuff I would use it for on the main TV so it doesn't get used too much. SOmeday I will dump cable but today aint the day.

Roku is great. We have Apple tv and Roku and I think we've had the Roku for about three years. Look up "private channels for Roku" and you'll find a bunch of channels not available in their regular store.

    Don't leave home without it!

I can access my Roku via my iPad.
Also downloaded & installed the program "PlayOn" which can access "MyMedia" where I can listen to old THSS broadcasts (from the 1990s & early 21st Century), movies & other radio shows I have in my Media folders on my PC.

Roku is God's way of saying she loves you for $50-$60 total plus various subscription fees for various programming choices -like extra for HuluPlus (not a fan), YouTube, Amazon Prime, and other (potentially unnecessary) bullshit.

    Roku is GOOD.
    Not EVIL.

I have a first generation player and only installed like 6 months, despite having it for like 3 years(I'm a semi-Luddite). What was cool about the flash on JustinTv?

I've worried over the necessity of Amazon Prime for a while.

Do you do a lot of shipping or ordering items from Amazon?
I can't ses it paying for itself in overall cost.

Please give me your estimation of content & worth. They charge per movie or tv series, correct?

Amazon Prime is the shit !!! best deal on the internet, if you buy a lot of stuff online..... I buy anywhere from 2-6 items a month from them... ALL of my purchases are free shipping with guaranteed 2 day delivery. Plus I get a shitload of TV & movies streaming for free through my ROKU & computer
