    Always wondered what the process is like and how much you have to flip back to the original franchise.

    I really don't know - is it a one time payment or an ongoing payment for marketing, website, etc?

    It's expensive. You probably need $250,000 or more in capital to start.

    It depends on the franchise. All will require an up front. Depends on the product. You may or may not be required to buy from the home company. We had a franchise but we basically had the name and the buying power of the company but it was really loose. We did have to pay a percentage of gross for a few years. Some have that forever. You just have to find what your interested in and look into it because they are so different.

    Thanks...I was at 5 Guys today and they had an article on the wall about how the original owner didn't want to franchise and finally went for it and there are like 1,000 in DEVELOPMENT. Got me thinking about other franchise opportunities.

    If I had the dough, I'd look into Potbelly sandwich shops. They are fucking expensive though.

    Those are always packed, so are Chipolte's and Dunkin Donuts....

    So you pay a hefty up front ($250K) and are required to buy their stuff and give them a percentage of gross profits?

    One issue is that some places will only allow franchises to people with a background in business. Not just a BA but actual experience in owning a store or something.
