i've coached for 10yrs, thinking about reffing.
I coached and reffed Softball. You have to be a thick skinned mother fucker to ref. I almost beat some ass a couple of times and decided it wasn't for me. I coached my daughters all the way through high school.
i hear ya, i've seen some nutty insane parents the past 10yrs going apeshit on refs.
I reffed soccer for a year......worst experience of my life.
Coached my kids baseball once...The parents are such assholes cause their little bastard, worthless, no talent kids didn't get enough playing time!
what age group & why?
I was a Girl Scout Troop leader
ya, playing time is the biggest bitch from parents & then they want to win also which can't happen with everyone playing equal.
did all the moms bombard you with ideas?
Yeah. It's not the kids so much as the parents. Every parent thinks their kid's the next Gretzky / Pele / Senna and they can do no wrong. Sad when a ten year old is more rational than his 40 year old dad. When you add money into the equation (motorsports) it gets worse. Way worse.
Reffed youth B-Ball for years. The parents are the absolute worst. The kids just want to play and have fun. Every now and then a coach is an ass but hand down, the parents suck
i can imagine motorports with that investment being tough.
i've seen some kids totally embarrassed by their parents during games & its painful to watch...feel bad for the kid.
no, they were so happy to get rid of their daughter for a few hours they didn't give a shit what we did
thats what i remember when mine was a brownie
as a soccer coach one game, we were killing the opponents, so i put all our best scorers on defense, worked on passing & gave the lessor players a chance to score, etc. one dad yelled at his player (who scored a few goals early) all game to keep the ball no matter what & take it up to score more.
as soon as the game ended, he marched his ass across the field to me & said my gameplan & tactics sucked & we should have scored more. the score was 12-0. he grabbed his embarrassed player & stormed off the field.
managed baseball and umpired for years....i had a good time doing it
stopped because of work
but oddly have not returned since i retired
you should get back into it, i bet it would be alot of fun with your perspective & lack of work stress.
I believe Shiv does or did. If those parents only knew.
id really like to coach a pop warner football team, but those spots are hard to break into
