And puked afterwards like Howard in Private Parts? I am considering firing like 6 people and throwing a fucking party afterwards. The only puking from me will come from excessive drinking after said party. Anyway, any of you have any good firing stories? Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I might have 6.

Yes I have, if they are incompetent, it isn't that hard.

Once had to fire a friend who was working for me and needed the money. He was a fish out of water in a sales-driven environment and after first giving him all the support and encouragement I could, then hinting he should look elsewhere, I was left with no choice cuz it was hurting me financially to carry him. Lost a friendship as a result.

There have been times when I had to fire good, honest people who needed the job and the money and worked hard at it but ultimately just could not do the job properly no matter how much training and time I gave them. I wanted to puke after those

Because I hate their guts. I know, not good enough. They are pretty incompetent, though.

yep. twice. they were fuck ups. i did it happily and with HR witnesses.

when i took over an office, one told me that she didn't have to do what i asked her to do because she didn't work for me, she worked for some clown that was the lowest level procurement guy in my office. i had her escorted out about 2 hours later. going through HR is a pain but i like to cover all the bases.

I fire someone on average two or three times per week. Be short, concise and to the point. Give them a decent package and thank them for their work.

It isn't that hard when done right. It's never easy and doesn't get easier with experience

Yes, earlier this year. I followed the whole HR process. Bad performance review, everything documented, but they weren't right for the job. She was still thunderstruck. Nice person, but wouldn't be a succes. I felt like a failure because as her boss, I couldn't help her succeed. It was a horrible day, but it's right for the business. Then I hired a rock star who's great and work is 1000 times better with a competent team.

I have your same heart, but at the end of the day, it really is about business.

I had to get rid of a staffer at a previous employer. We just said there was no business case to keep him since our section was, for a brief period, light on work and I was not going to be the fall guy. He had professional issues, was not going to be advancing, was given the hint, and we made the change at the earliest opportunity.

2 years later, I got the hint that The Turk was going to be making the rounds and left as soon as I lined up another position.

Lost a friendship? Wasn't it hurting you financially to carry him? Doesn't he understand he isn't pulling his weight and needs to be let go? (Assuming you explained to him the reason for his firing) I never understand people who don't see reality, and instead blame others.

Agreed. Good luck with your situation. Make sure you document shit so you don't get sued down the road.

few jobs ago we had this guy who was a real dud come in one day crowing about how he just closed on a condo and he leave to take a piss and my boss goes "this isnt good, i was about to fire him". he felt so bad for the guy he couldnt pull the trigger. i ended up doing it for $1,000 cash the guy was a real weirdo too, his hobby was setting up and photographing weird scenes with GI joe dolls and barbies.

    A. The Biff Avatar is definitely fitting for this.

    B. Never directly. I've done evaluations of coworkers on the lower totem pole and I give them to management. I'm sure my evaluations have made a factor or 2 in firings.
