Had a dishwasher leak internally where you couldn't tell and the floor 10' away started to warp. I drilled some holes and used a fiberoptic camera to peek under the cabinets. Fuzz!

Insurance guy and repair guy were out today. $6800, but I just pay the $2500 deductible. Thankfully I sprang for the special coverage for that. It may get worse as they open things up, but they say they'll cover it.

Anyone have any tips or good stories? (please don't make a mockery of this by talking about vagina issues)

sprinkle a small amount of the mold in your food everyday. Soon your body will naturally build up a defense against the mold. Problem solved.

You can spray bleach on mold and it kills it. Maybe save a few thousand dollars?

Black mold is the worst and gets you sick. I had mold on my basement wall from a leaky window so I took care of it. It was only on concrete so i was able to see the bleech work its magic. Obviously if its in between flooring they have to rip it apart too see how far it spread. And they will replace wood to be safe.

There was a pretty good episode of King of Queens which tackled this controversial topic.

Well it sounds like you found the source for the water (dishwasher) that is causing the mold. Is it localized to that area? I'd think removing the cabinets/drywall in the infected area and you should be good to go.

Did you test your floor for asbestos before you drilled through it?

Bleach or vinegar alone won't do it unless you get in there and wipe or HEPA vacuum it up. Stachybotrys spores can be hydrophobic and close up like a pod until the chlorine evaporates. You got to get it out of dere.

Black mold from a flooding from ge prior owner. Had a mold specialist who treats the Chicago field museum come out. It was super extensive and cost a fortune but worth it. Read about the effects of that shit hidden in walls. It's not to be messed with. You're smart for having it covered.

Nationwide came out, there will be a mold specialist here tomorrow, and they already cut a check for $3300 for starters that will be endorsed over to the contractor eventually when done, plus they pay the mold people directly. They will remove it, clean any that can be cleaned, cut out any subfloor that was affected, repair the subfloor, replace some hardwood flooring near the mold, and amazingly, refinish the entire floor of the house so it matches the replaced pieces. The refinishing alone was $3600. We were about to do that anyway, so for the cost of our $2500 deductible we get $3600 of floor refinishing in the process. The guy even said we could pick whatever color finish we wanted. We had planned to go darker.

Chicken Parm you taste so good.
