I've been thinking of moving and simplifying for a few years. I live in the city and have 3 kids, a wife and a dog. I've considered everything from moving to costa rica (or similar) or even just a few hours out of the city to chop wood, build my home with my own hands, spend more time with my kids, lay on a beach and generally get the fuck out of the rat race. I bought my home in the city 10 years ago at the beginning of making some good money. Since then, my income has gone way up and way down (I've always worked for myself). It's too stressful and you only live once. In that time my home has gone from about $350k to about $700k. Maybe I should cash out, pay shit off and move on to something new. I certainly have some things to pay off (fucking taxman). I think the family would be on board for an adventure. I love the idea of buying a nice big sailboat and circumnavigating the world over a few years with the family (but then what?!). Downside? I love where we live and would hate to give it up. Great area, friends etc. Would also be priced out of moving back unless I start making a lot more money. Anyone ever taken a huge, blind leap like this?
