So here is the deal in short: I have been renting in the same place for about 2 years now. However for the last 4 months there hasn't been a current lease. I have just been continuing to pay rent, the management company has continued to cash the checks and I have continued to live there no questions asked. Now here lies the problem: I have been told by my neighbor that the landlord has been showing my apartment to people while I am at work. He has never once said anything to me about a new lease or about packing up and moving out. My question is: does he have the right to just boot my ass out of there whenever he wants? I know FMV to rent my crib is way lower than what I am paying so if he can find a tenant willing to pay more I am sure he'd love to have the increased revenue. I think I should first be afforded the opportunity to stay even if it means an increase in rent. Or if he just wants me out for whatever reason I should be provided ample notice. Am I wrong?
