Just diagnosed. The common type - a sliding one, but boy does it cause me discomfort every hour of the day. Doc says nothing can be done about it.

Apparently about 50% of people have one.

Stern related because I think listening to the evolved Stern Show the last few years caused it...yup, I'm pretty sure.

I had an umbilical hernia back in December. The doctor pushed it back in. That's some extreme discomfort right there.

Yes, I've taken Omeprazole for 15 years, sleep with two pillows and don't eat 2 hours before bed.
No, I'm not a pretty princess. It can be misery.

You can't have some type of procedure to fix it? That gives me the heebie jeebies :SeXt:

No, it's in the stomach, you don't get it from that!

Actually yes, I need to live in a bubble. More injuries and health issues in my young life than I can count!

Most people get it from lifting something heavy - it causes the stomach to push up into the diaphragm. The little valve to the esophagus can't close properly, so it can cause GERD/reflux. It can also cause problems like chest and back pain, asthma symptoms, press on the vagus nerve and cause problems with the nervous system.

That sucks. I think I need to get a wedge pillow. It's also giving me LPR/silent reflux symptoms.

There may be a procedure, but doc has said he won't do it. I follow up in a few weeks so I will ask again. I've read a chiropractor can help, so I plan to try that. Can't hurt to try.

The key for me is sleeping propped up and not eating late. If I drink beer until I go to bed - and I can neither confirm nor deny that has happened- it kills me. Nothing makes you sit up faster than a mouthful of stomach acid.
The procedure is far from good- you have a good doctor.

Diagnosed in 2004. Eye doctor turned me on to something similar to this.

I think that sums up the reason I can never believe in God. The supreme being thought it was a good idea to make people with the design of a little valve that can't close properly and can fuck you up all day and night. And there's nothing that can be done. And why did Jesus feel the need to invent cavities? Or zits? Can't I just live without all the bullshit?

Yeah I have one. Sucks. It's like a second stomach poking out of the first one. I'll burp 2 hours after eating and up comes a fully intact piece of food. Gross. Get some Nexium for the acid reflux. Doc told me nothing could be done too.
