Question, my rotty's hips are obviously starting to bother him from time to time, but not every day. I've heard and read about a lot of different stuff you can give them and wanted to know if anyone had experience with this? How about what can I give him when it's obviously hurting, maybe baby Tylenol? Thx!!
I give my lab aspirin when he looks like he hurt something. He sprained his tail from swimming in the ocean so my vet recommended giving him bayer instead of a pricey prescription.
The first place I turn when seeking veterinarian advice is a message board full of drug addicts and unemployed Howard Stern fans.
He's 9 and in otherwise great shape, just that after a long run or when he's played a lot I can tell he gets sore in his back legs or hip. I've grown up with labs and rotties and always gave them whatever the vet recommended but heard that Glucosamine and something called Daysequin (sp?) is good. I've gotten mixed info on what I can give him on the days he seems sore though. Definitely going back to the vet but wanted to go armed with some info hence the post. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE REPLIES AND ADVICE!! I rescued him when he was just a few months old and he's the coolest, smartest dog ever. He's a big rotty but has his tale, thankfully it was never cropped. See more and new rotties these days with tails. I just hate to think he's in pain, ya know. It's only once every few weeks that it's even noticeable but i'll do whatever I can.
Just don't get all obsessed reading shit on the internet, I did that with my oldest cat, drove myself fucking crazy, and it was all bullshit.
No shit, I made that mistake shortly after getting him when he wouldn't eat. Every dog I've ever had would eat all their food right when I'd feed them but this one wouldn't. 9 years later he's still that way, he's a grazer and eats when he wants. He eats plenty, just whenever he feels like it but it was something I wasn't used to. Figured something was wrong...nope!
As I said, I am, just figured I'd get some additional info before going. In fact, I took him the first time I noticed it and the vet said since he's lean and healthy and it was the only time I'd seen it, most likely just pulled something. Took x-rays and all. No hip dysplasia, at least as of a year ago when I first had it looked at.
