Instead of driving to the airport I tried Uber last week. Cheaper than a cab, nice driver and clean car, easy interface.
Anyone ever try driving for them? My perception is that if I'm bored and need some cash, I could drive for a couple of hours. I don't know if it's actually a huge pain in the ass, anyone drive or know a driver?
Anyone want a lift in the Milkymobile?

A buddy of mine drives for both. First thing he told me was that when you use either make sure to ask their craziest story. Every time I have and they don't dissapoint. He says that he makes pretty good cash driving at night and has been tipped in cash, booze, and drugs. He claims that he's hooked up with chicks especially MILFS and likes driving business men around as they tend to want to drive to strip clubs.

When he's driving during the day, he's said it's okay but not too many exciting fairs.

The seats have 'stains' on them. Appear to be red or white color. The trunk may or may not contain rope, duct tape, or hand cuffs.

Remember, since you are a contractor you will get a 1099 at the end of the year and you will have to pay a shit load of taxes on April 15 since they didn't take any out on your behalf.

I drive for über casually. I'm able to leverage my commute about 10-20% of the time and sometime just spend whole weekends driving in the city.

Makes for a decent side job, but I love talking to people and finding out more about the Boston area. Lived here most of my life and still finding new things.

Uber usually takes a 20% cut. I can make upwards of $30 and as little as half that depending on how many rides, how far, bridges/tolls etc.

Most days, 3-hrs will net between $50-75.

Haven't worked for a tax cycle yet, but thinking you can find ways to offset at least some of that income via deductions (gas, maintenance, cleaning, etc)

    I would tread carefully.

I travel a lot and I usually use Lyft these days (since they let me tip without having to use cash) to and from the airport, and in my destination city. I always ask the drivers about their experience. Most of the drivers drive for Uber and Lyft.

The last time I was coming home from the airport, the guy was exclusive for Lyft. He said GM invested $500 million in Lyft and had a program where you can get a car for free and you just have to do 75 rides per week. If you do that, the car doesn't cost you anything, the gas doesn't cost you, the maintenance doesn't cost you, and the insurance doesn't cost you. The only caveat is you have to do 75 rides in a week and you have to be exclusive with Lyft. Of course, you don't own the car - and they know when you are driving for personal use (and they deduct a per-mile fee for personal use). But it's really hard to compete with other drivers who are getting the car for free.

When the barriers to entry are so low, it's really hard to compete with and turn a profit.

Friday and Saturday nights only for me. I drive on xl platform both. I've had a good run all summer $500- $600, high was $700 for those 2 nights after their cut.
Drive smart, but it's not easy. I have a good time with pax 95% of the time.

Btw....more and more drivers equals less rides. If a night is slow I turn off and just go home. Let them duke it out and get tired of it first.
