I'm a huge fan of Amazon and what they do, overall (Although I was fairly underwhelmed with the Fire-TV & Kindle-Fire that I've used)... I buy from their website at least 2-3 times a week, and everything's at my doorstep within 2 days without fail........While its unlikely that I'll swap one of these for my state of the art iPhone anytime soon, this thing does look much more impressive than those Samsung slabs of shit....

I'd have to really see it perform. I can tell you the problem w/ the kindle fire, it should be using it's native soft and not amazons stupid skin.

    Anything is possible though.

how about they just work on the battery life for these phones... would be nice to be able to actually use it longer than 8 hours without it dying....

give me a phone that never requires being plugged in to charge... that is covered in invisible solar panels that constantly charge the battery.... that is something i'd drop money and switch plans for

battery technology has always lagged long behind other technology developments. the issue is that we just don't have batteries that hold a charge that well, and those that do hold a sufficient change cost more than the phone they are supposed to power.

anything that makes light or a radio signal or sounds takes more energy. we could try to make more efficient screens, speakers, and radio transceivers but the profits just aren't there to reward making more efficient emitters. the rewards favor making brighter screens, faster switching screens (motion is more fluid), and transceivers that broadcast further, but all these are bigger drains on the battery. also the rewards are there for making the phones thinner and lighter, which means lower density batteries which take up less space and hold less charge.

    ugh!!!!!

oh well.. I can't complain THAT much, I at least get a day out of my phone at work not like my last one that lasted 3 hours before it would die.... just wish they would spend more on that technology, but I understand others dont care about it as much as I do

btw, invisible solar cells wouldn't function: in order to convert light to electricity the cells have to stop or capture the light. if the light passed thru the cells they wouldn't have anything to turn into electricity.

i got used to the crappy battery life and carry an external battery pack with me that can charge all my gadgets for a month on one charge. it is bulky and weighs a lot more but i don't run out of electricity now. I got mine via a Kickstarter program but they work and the price is acceptable.

Looks like it runs on Android.

The 3D thing looks pretty sweet, but other than being a cool gimmick, how does it make my life better?

Amazon is getting too fucking big. They are playing dirty with the book publishers now. They also own dpreview, Zappos, audible.com, living social and who knows what the fuck else. I use them all the time but I haven't bought any of their electronics and probably won't. Bazos or whatever his name is, is after world domination.

Buy and Kindle Paperwhite and you will love it forever. I've actually been reading more books lately thanks to it. I love it love it love it. Reads like paper, and it has a built-in backlight that works amazingly well.
