I can never sleep through the night. I always wake up 3 or 4 times.
I was given ambien to try. My worry is being groggy the next day

I took it once, and it knocked me on my ass and I'll never take it again -- It's really hard to wake up -- I would suggest OTC before going anywhere near that -- maybe Tylenol PM for occassional use -- also, knock off the caffeine after late afternoon

I would examine the reasons you're waking up -- bathroom, sore back, stress, apnea -- and try to address those root issues before you get into a cycle of taking sleep medication -- if you have insurance, most will pay for a sleep study if you get a referral from your general doctor

Do you workout, do yoga or meditiate?

I always sleep really well after doing some sort of physical activity during the day and I never need a sleeping pill.....of course I have nothing on my mind, so that may be a factor, too. :bounce:

I had a different reaction. I didn't got to bed immediately after taking it and after an hour I was wired like I'd taken speed.
Also had nightmares when I did go to sleep.
I'm sticking with Children's Benadryl under the tongue strips

I prefer masturbation to yoga or meditation. If I workout before bed time it only makes me wired out.
Workouts are for earlier in the day.

Oh. Yes. Never workout right before bedtime. :grad:

Ambien makes people do and say some crazy things.

I have taken Ambien but it doesn't always consistently work for me. Also my doctor told me to give time for at least 6 hours of sleeping while on it. I think that is nonsense. I need at least 9-10 hours to not be groggy on it.

I don't know what the strips are, but yea, OP should try Melatonin. Ambien sounds kinda scary; crazy thoughts and behavior and dreams for a lot of people.

I was prescribed it about 8 months ago. Took it twice, and threw it away.

I woke up, and felt like I was in a fog. Got into a cold shower, and I knew the water was hitting me, but I couldn't feel it. That was the wierdest feeling ever.

I'd rather just wake up, and try and fall back to sleep, than take that shit again.

i didn't try ambien but i was waking up every hour on the hour for a while there. whatever sleep meds the doc gave me made me feel really odd and i stopped and didn't ask for anything else.

i grew out an indica genetic. a good indica is great for sleep problems, and it's much better for you, as it doesn't have 500 potential side affects (just munchies, giggles, occasional hornyness and sleep).

it helps if you're in a med state.

I found it to be highly addictive. What I mean by that is the standard dose loses effect after about two weeks; at least it did for me. Then, you want to take two instead of just the one and before you know it, you're taking three or four and it's not having any effect.

See a shrink to find out the root cause(s) of your insomnia. And for God's sake, stop getting sleep aid help from a primary care physician. those retards don't know anything beyond boo-boos and giving physical exams.

I use it when I really need to sleep. Works pretty well for me. But I do tend to feel a little bit groggy when I wake up for the day. With Ambien, timing is very important.

yeah, the stress could be a psychological thing. something else that's going on in your life is at the root of your insomnia.

This, I tried ambien and melatonin and both gave me crazy dreams to the point where I would wake up affected. Weed and a 1/2 mg of xanax every once in a while do the trick for me
