if fired, what to write in the "reason for leaving last employment" question?
will former employer say the person was fired, or aren't they allowed to say

i'm asking this for a friend. of course i would never be fired:hat:

depends on the company -- most places I have worked, it has been policy not to say if someone was terminated -- don't want to open yourself up to liability

I think you're supposed to put "boss was a cunt" or something to that effect.

Really depends on the state. I'm in PA, and they are not allowed to say you were fired. Usually they will just give dates of employment. The way around that is to ask if they are eligable to be re-hired. If they say no, that's a dead giveaway.

That's about the same in Texas. I don't always trust them, though...like you say, that's kinda a loophole.

As for what to write in, "position was eliminated". It's the truth. :p

Give it 3-6 months. Have the person run an employment background check on themselves after that time

If it doesn't show on the background check they never worked for the company

Insert Vandelay Industries in its place :hhh:

I am in hiring. All we ask for is dates of employment and most recent job title.

However, I do run extensive background checks so if the termination had to be reported to the state I will find out.

Employees have huge rights. All you can do is verify employment and whether or not they are available for rehire.

I don't really care what bullshit you write down, but 100% of the time I call the last employer. I always ask if they are eligible for rehire. If they left badly, most of them manage to get the message across even if it's circumspect. Never never never hire without talking to their last boss.

So figure out a way to trick me and you'll be fine.
