I don't mean in the grand scheme of things, but on a daily grind. I got a flat tire today, luckily I was close to home so I was able to crawl it home. Now I get to go to the mechanic on Saturday and wait for a replacement. I've got the shitty little spare on. What's your story? everyone has one.

Being a grown man who doesn't know how to change a tire would be worse to me.

I used to be a knuckle busting car guy in my teens / early twenties.
At one time I owned several - 2 trucks, 3 cars, along with a sand rail, several 3 wheelers, etc.
All of them were old and had various mechanical issues.
It was always a crapshoot starting one and keeping it running throughout the day / week. Parking and storage was always a challenge.
Constant juggling of tires and other car parts.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed working on and modifying cars, but I finally had enough.
I wanted 1 car that was always reliable, always started and had a warranty.
I started buying newer and new cars years ago and have not looked back.
It's worth spending the money for the peace of mind.

I got a flat tire once after work in the parking garage from a pointy screw thing.
Luckily I was right next door to a tire store when I realized it and didn't get on the highway.
It was $30 for a patch. Just a hassle but could have been much worse.

When I was 18, I was driving across state, my car's radiator hose busted, and I overheated in middle of nowhere around midnight next to a swamp.

Cellphones were not everywhere yet, so I went through hours of trying to get my car to the nearest hick town to get tow truck and a motel.

I was off of an exit, and blocking two 18wheelers, who to avoid me, jumped a curb, and it looked like their trailer was going to tip over and crush me to death.

I had a few nightmares from that since then.

Anything with a spare handy is not a breakdown. Try I-16 at 3am in a German car and you wind up spending 3 nights in a hotel after 4 hours on the side of the road till they can get your car towed 3 hours to where it can be repaired.
