Thought I'd cook a proper Breakfast for the first time time years, so went to the store to stock up... Bacon was averaging about $8 a package.... So I decided to buy a package a Chicken Breasts (for about the same price) & make Fajitas.... Screw Breakfast

Drought in the midwest. No corn. Price of corn goes up.
Pigs eat corn. Price of pork goes up.
Corn is use to make ethanol, the gas additive. Price of gas goes up.

You're gonna pay for that bacon. And it's not gonna get better.

I know hay prices went ballistic in some places (our "hay guy" took care of us though) due to the drought so that may have something to do with it. That shit fucks with the whole food chain. Didn't corn spike in price from the drought too? Pigs like them some corn!

the price of bacon is based mostly on the price of pork belly futures on the commodities market. if the spot price increases so does the retail that year. a pound of Oscar Meyer bacon has been about $7-$8 here for the past 3 years so maybe your area is catching up?

Only because I'm a hillbilly with a small farm.......otherwise I'd be as oblivious as everyone else on this issue.

I've been able to get a 3 pound pack of fresh Boneless-Skinless Chicken breast for $10-$11 for the last year (its always going on sale) ...How cold Pigs be more expensive to farm than Chickens? I'm not gonna to pretend to know what the margins are on livestock farming, but on the face of it that just makes no sense to me..
