my question to the Americans here is, would you accept them as your 51st state?
Fuck yeah. More tax dollars to spend on Obamaphones.
They got a bunch of slutty chicks, great beaches.
I would totally travel to Puerto Rico once it became a State, and not a dirty whatever it currently is.
Puerto Rico is currently a US territory.
Hell yeah. I've been there and it's got more English speaking people than Texas.
Hell ya. That would be cool.
They don't want change.
So are you prepared to replace all of your flags with a new 51 star design?
46.6% voted for statehood 14 yrs ago.
I have no flags
In my opin, it deserves to be a state much more than Hawaii does.
don't they have to be ratified by all the other states?
that emoticon will have to be altered.
Correct. They want all of the benefits of being a territory without the fiscal obligations and problems of being a state. It will never pass.
Everybody speaks Spanish and you just speak English and its all good. Kinda like Star Trek.
If Puerto Ricans vote for an option other than the current U.S. territory status, the government of Puerto Rico will be expected to petition the federal government on behalf of the voters. For example, if a majority of voters choose statehood, Puerto Rico's nonvoting Resident Commissioner can be expected to introduce legislation admitting Puerto Rico to the Union. As with other bills, it would have to pass both the House and the Senate, and be signed by the President of the United States, or, if vetoed, veto overridden by 2/3 of each of the House and Senate to become law.
Don't hey get all the benefits of statehood without paying taxes? Lets get some taxes from them.
to me its vry obv Hawaii was added to the Union to make an even 50 states.
