I wanted to work in radio, I tried and tried and tried.....then gave up, then tried and tried again. This went on for over 30 years, with a little success, but kind of like those early planes that get off the ground, plummet, then rise up again etc.
I guess giving up after futility. I did get somewhat on track, was on air in a professional setting, but non paying fill in gigs mostly,no career if no one will pay you.
I am successful at dragging my ass through 30 years of sales jobs, around 30 of them,so pretty much the same boat as you.
I've always wondered about that industry. I've got a bunch of radio sales peeps as clients & when i'm in their office I walk by the soundbooths & all those dj's are fat dirty nasty barely human trolls. very odd looking group that profession
For the most part its not a very glamorous profession. For every Stern and Opie and Anthony, theres hundreds of these types of guys, drifting from town to town. Opie and Anthony on todays show were talking how they barely made a living for years before breaking through. I have only been on the fringes, and never landed at a station full time.
kimmel talks about all the stations he was fired from before landing his last radio gig in LA, early 90's.
I worked for 2 radio stations, plus I was a guest host on 2 other stations off and on for about 4 years. I got about 4 free records,as well as a couple of concert tickets for free and money ZER0
I wanted a job where I could make a difference in people's lives, and I have it. Couldn't be happier.
