If staff feels this should be a global thread, be my guest.

Maybe some of you have heard about this and maybe some have not. But on July the 9th, if your machine is infected with the DNS Changer virus, the FBI will have you disconnected from the internet. Estimates are about 500,000 internet users will be disconnected.
This is no bullshit. It affects Windows and Macs. (Linux, iOS and Android users are in the clear)

There's a website that will check your machine with no downloading or installing anything. You system is checked as soon as the page loads. Thank me later!
    :uhat:
Here's the link to check your system:

Here's some other links that explain it much further.:

Google "DNS Changer" and make up your own mind. Or ignore it and sit and watch the calendar. :c

    One would think.
But I fix a lot of paralyzed computers for people that think a virus and malware are the same thing, simply because they don't know any better. Some that run nothing at all.
And then there's the Mac users. It's very easy to become complacent about viruses on a Mac. Just like Linux. (which is immune to this)

Never hurts to double check. A porn popup is nowhere near as offensive as a "THE FBI HAS SHUT YOUR SHIT OFF!" popup.... :nooo:

The best defense against Internet threats is a multi-layer approach. No AV program, by itself, will protect you. Install all Windows high priority updates. Use Firefox or Chrome, not IE. Keep your AV software up to date.

...kaspersky just reported on a worm virus the u.s. put on irans computers called "flame" its a remote computer program that followed the virus that shut down their nulcear shit recently. iirc it basically make the designated recieving computer (our govt) a remote clone of their computers (iranian govt). i thought it was pretty bad ass that kaspersky picked up on it cause theyre who i pay for the program on my computer. you can google flame virus it was just in the news a day or 2 ago.

I'd love to see the court orders obtained by the FBI authorizing them to do this. Must be the War and Peace of probable cause affidavits. (I didn't click on your link though so if it's there sorry, I will read it later.)

Yeah, I read about that the other day! (Israel's getting the blame of course!) The amazing thing was the size of the virus, About 20 mb. Most are in the kb range.
But with this thing, infected computers could have their keystrokes logged. They could turn your cam on at will. Or maybe your mic to hear some offiice chatter. Listen to your Skype calls. The list was massive.
