Today I noticed this icon on my taskbar asking me to reserve an upgrade for windows 10.

    http://venturebeat.com/2015/05/31/m...ers-to-reserve-their-free-windows-10-upgrade/

I'm pretty happy with windows 7, really don't have any issues at all.

Isn't installing a whole new operating system a big deal? Is this going to result in me having so spend weeks of fixing shit afterwards? :dontknow:

    Are you doing it?

howard related because he probably talks about computers and stuff

    Marketing scheme.

I would wait for reviews and only then decide. Microsoft shouldn't decide that timing for you. And there will be no "rollback" option if you don't like Windows 10, or realize they killed a feature you found useful in Windows 7, like Windows Media Center or native Image based Backup/Restore.

Windows 7 runs flawlessly and they know it'll be the next XP unless they take this slimy approach to nag unsuspecting people with a popup into inflating their Windows 10 install numbers.

Again, wait for reviews. Because so far I haven't seen a single must-have feature that makes me go "oh I need that". Post Windows 7 has just been a big circlejerk of Microsoft trying to leverage their desktop dominance by hitting desktop users over the head with their Metro/Mobile crap. Windows 10 looks like it'll be more of the same.

Sorry for the repeat thread. I searched before I started but didn't think that other thread was still active.

So whats the "free" scam? Are they are moving to a yearly license fee like antivirus does?

I have Windows 7 on my desktop and not about to upgrade. Everybody seems to think 7 is really good so I'm taking the attitude "Better safe than sorry."

I'm going to stick with Windows 7. My desktop is 4 years old and my laptop is about 2.5 years old and they can handle the upgrade, but I just get the feeling that the upgrade is going to slow down my computer and speed up the timing of when I will need to buy a new one.

Windows 7 works perfectly fine for me and I have zero interest in "live" tiles on my desktop or start menu. But I must admit that I like the look of the new desktop and am curious to try it out. Maybe I'll give it a whirl on one of the two.

I bought my new PC last year with Windows 8. When they offered to upgrade me to 8.1 for nothing, I didn't hesitate.

I'll probably upgrade to 10, but not right away

I'm concerned that Windows 10 is really Windows as a Service in disguise. I don't want to upgrade to an operating system that will eventually charge you a monthly fee to keep it updated. They even mentioned that the user will have no control over the updates they install. Everything will be installed automatically. I don't trust MS or Apple for that matter.

Went from 7 on my old laptop to 8 on my new one. 8 sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls. They fucked it up so that programs that ran on 7 don't on 8, like my Nero Express.

I'm doing it. From what I have read about it, it's lightening fast and can be configured to look just like Windows 7. I reserved my copy today and will be the guinea pig.

Thanks for the input. These are the kinds of concerns I have. I use Nero for DVD's and CD's and it would be a real pain in the ass if I have to go find a different program.

Windows 8 sucks, I too bought a laptop with it.

Upgraded to 8.1 for free...8.1 is better but still sucks compared to 7.

Can't wait for 10....or for this laptop to go tits up...addition by subtraction.

I'm looking forward to Windows 10, I'm really curious about the HoloLens that works with Windows 10 though, that looks like a cool toy to play around with.
