"Comedian Artie Lange joined HuffPost Live on Monday to talk about his new bookCrash and Burn, addiction and more, but one of the most poignant moments was his response to a question about having used gay slurs in his comedy in the past.
Lange, a fixture on "The Howard Stern Show" from 2001 until his suicide attempt in 2009, spoke thoughtfully about how both the world and comedy has changed.
"We live in a more enlightened generation now," he said. "If someone came to me and told me something I said caused some kid to commit suicide, I'd be in a nuthouse for the rest of my life."
Watch the clip above, but do yourself a favor and click over to HuffPost Live to watch the entire interview. It's worth it."

Artie is doing the same hypocritical backtracking Stern has been doing.

The only difference is that Lange still does a pretty funny show and doesn't get on his "gay soapbox" like Howard does

I took away from it that Artie says he wouldn't use "faggot"' anymore, but he also talks about context in terms of jokes. I think if he were to be doing his old Iron Sheik bit, he might still use it because it's part of the joke. Unlike Howie, he's not going back and trying to deny his past, or pulling his DVDs and editing out the use of certain words. He comes right out and says he used to say it, now he wouldn't.

i'm glad artie is doing better, but i puked in my mouth a bit.

since life is so fluffy and gentle, we should all migrate to censoring everything that may be offensive to someone, somewhere...

It sucks but he's dead on. And ultimately if you require the word "fag" to get a cheap laugh, it's pretty hackey.

I'm doing stand-up for about 3 years now and it's just not acceptable to use the words "fag" or "faggot", because the kids in the audience have been taught to cringe instead of laugh, regardless of the context. It's a funny word because of the hard consonants, same as cunt, fuck, shit, dick, pussy, clit, snatch, etc. I use "fruity" instead and nobody minds.

so what i'm getting is that any time someone is offended by a word (whether it's retard, Reggie, kike, dune coon, fag, cunt, gook, etc)noone should think of using it in a comedy routine or even a movie. it shouldn't be uttered, it might offend someone.

so, what's the next word going to be that's deemed to be "offensive"?

Enlightened. Artie discovered a new word. He used it about 7 times.

The more comedy evolves the less funny it is.

No wonder Eastbound and Down is the only funny comedy on television right now.

His girlfriend is gonna be doing puppy charities in 3...2...1...

It amuses me that folks get so butthurt over the fact that someone has decided to not use a word that they find funny. :rolleye:

his phrasing was everything. or perhaps we're just not 'enlightened' enough to get it?

I agree, I hate where the world is going--to the point where a Canadian comic had to pay money to a heckler for going "overboard". Bullshit.

Oh, his phrasing was awful for sure, but seriously, how many times have folks on here gotten upset because someone doesn't want to say "Reggie" or "faggot" somewhere? Is it really so difficult to find another word to latch onto?

I think it's the self-censoring and "evolving" after the fact certain people have made their marbles off of something they now deride.

And coincidentally these people have their eyes lasered in on marbles that can only be obtained by being PC.

It's transparent, self-serving bullshit. And the fact they have to trailer on words like evolved and enlightened to their new pc-world view is douche chilling.

Wasn't this the funny guy that was once actually in a "nuthouse"..for trying to kill *himself*?

Where does all of this eventually lead and possibly end?.......with Artie in the Bronx getting caught sucking off a New York Yankees player..to be named..later.

The fact that Artie thinks his words carry the weight to make some kid jump off a bridge is unintentionally hilarious. :artiejj:

    Holy fucking delusional.
