he could not get any advertisers (according to him on Carolla)

He also said he now has a small following, but can still get $250k for a comedy special on TV

He sounded like crap but honest
AC said that maybe Artie can make enough off the podcast to stay off the road & be healthy & Artie said he doesn't see it being that successful

    I don't believe that.
The show was not good enough to be huge IMO

Artie got saddled with garbage sidekicks and guests. Dan Patrick and Rich Eisen do very well with their simulcasts.

Artie is nowhere near the professional broadcaster they are.
    Artie is not very talented
He had a PERFECT gig as a sidekick
He admits he is not a great comic & that most of his dwindling fanbase is solely due to Stern

How do you expect to get advertisers before you demonstrate you have an audience?

That makes no sense for a few reasons man
He had an audience (DTV) & 90% of the podcasters that charge for advertising never had a podcast before

I factored in prep time, but upon further reflection, you're correct.

Yes. These guys actually research the sports they talk about rather than just throwing out names of random Yankees players from the 80s every 10 minutes.

I like his honesty. He's right; he's not a great comic and the part about the fan base is correct. With his own material, he's bad (any number of unwatchable stand-up specials and Beer League). In the Stern ecosystem, there was nobody better. It's so odd, with Stern he was a fucking legend. Without him, he's the second funniest guy at your job.

Say what you will about Howard. The guy takes mildly talented people, immerses them in his universe, and they become fucking icons. On their own, they're traffic cops.
