Blackbeard and his notorious ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge met their demise on Nov 22, 1718 in the waters off the coast of North Carolina. Lieutenant Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy aboard his ship the HMS Pearl, tracked Blackbeard down. Maynard(34 yrs old) and Blackbeard(38 yrs old) from eyewitness accounts, ended up in hand to hand combat with pistols pointed at each other. Maynard hit Blackbeard with his shot and Blackbeard missed. Blackbeard was not stopped by the shot and continued to go after Maynard until one of Maynard's men jumped on Blackbeard's back and inflicted a deep wound to his neck. Blackbeard was then shot over 5 times and stabbed over twenty and beheaded. His head was tied to the HMS Pearl for their trip back to Virgina. Artifacts from the ship and Blackbeard's last battle.

pretty cool. but I wouldn't want to deal with any of this stuff......there's no way you're not going to be haunted by pirate ghosts if you do.

I have friends in the outer banks. While visiting them one year, one of us stepped on a sea shell. When they took their foot away, it turned out to be a pipe bowl. Thinking it was some POS jobbie, we brought it back as a joke. Turns out, it was over 300 years old and authentic. Made by a very rare trade pipe maker. From what I hear, shit like that turns up every day down there. The waters are uber dangerous and abandoned. Someone found a cannon and a bell that washed up on shore over the next two days we were there...
