You attempt a terrorist threat to NYC on the only holiday weekend of the year when we have all three branches of the military in town in force, all East Coast military bases activated and on high alert, and all with birds in the air up and down the East Coast all weekend long 24x7?

There are mosquitos that are unable to enter NYC airspace un-escorted today.

At least six flights were impacted by threats at airports in New York, New Jersey and Boston today, according to airlines and law enforcement.

    JFK Airport:

An Air France plane was escorted to JFK Airport in New York City this morning after an anonymous threat was made against the flight, law enforcement officials told ABC News. The FBI said the plane has since been checked and cleared with "no incidents or hazards reported on board the flight by either the passengers or its crew."

Authorities said that the decision to have the plane escorted by two fighter jets was done "out of an abundance of caution" after the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack, in Garrett County, received an anonymous call of a “chemical weapons threat” aboard Air France Flight 22, which was en route from Paris to the New York City airport.

They don't count as we don't deploy them abroad.

    Army
    Navy
    Marines

I'm old. i don't consider the air force to be independent. I still think its part of the Navy.

The Coast Guard is just odd. it started as part of the Dept of Transportation and now is part of Homeland Security. Is it military, or is it part of the Merchant Marines?

so did the Merchant Marines, but nobody called them military.

    They are still just odd.

I have got to remember to post a photo of the Coast Guard patrol boat from the Hudson Riv.

I considered myself a member of the military when I was enlisted in the CG.

I swore the same oath as all the other branches.

The U.S. government considers it a branch of the military.

    But okay. You know better.

Wasn't the Air Force part of the Army until after WW2, and the Marines were a Navy division?

They started as revenue ships to hunt down tax dodgers during the Revolutionary War era.

They combined with other life saving services throughout the years to become what you see today.

    Or trucking, as you say.

I know: people in the Coast Guard get upset at me when i say that. It's ok cause i was never in the service; i just support all US servicemen. I'm just being facetious.

yeah. AF became independent sometime a little before 1950. maybe 1947?

the Marines are older. they were started around the same time as the Army in the late 1700s but they mix in and out of the Navy constantly depending upon the need.

sometimes i think the Marines are like the planet Pluto: nobody wants to agree if its a planet or a moon, but they never claim it is not absolutely essential.
