    Was Ringo Starr a good drummer? I mean as far as actual ability goes. Going by that video he seemed like he was basic at best.

    Ringo was average as far as virtuosity went, but by all reports, he had an unerring sense of time and kept a rock solid backbeat.

    He played for what the song called for plus had many moments when his drumming drove the music further and was just as effective as anybody else's musical contribution. Think "Ticket to Ride", "Come Together", "A Day in the Life", "Tomorrow Never Knows", etc, etc.

    Ask any great drummer, they will tell you. Ringo Starr is one of the all time greats.
