I just noticed a bee hive the size of a basketball in a rhododendron bush right next to my front door.
Do I poke it with a stick or leave it alone. Please don't make a mockery of this....thanks

    it looks just like this.

Let it go. Wait for the first frost, then break the branch off. Those sell for huge bucks if you can avoid damaging them. The frost will kill the bees, but heavy rains / wind can destroy the hive.

Those look like North American Urine bees to me. If you want to keep them happy, walk right up to their hive and pee on it.

We used to get those in a tree we had in our yard in L.A. I called the pest control bee guy. Gives me the creeps just looking at it.

...you can wait til dusk and they all return to the nest and spray it with that stuff that shoots from 15 feet away or wack it with a baseball bat around 8:30 or so then run like hell.

They aren't bees they are hornets.

Wait till after dark when they are less active, spray the crap out of them with hornet spray.
Cut the attached branch so it drops into a garbage bag. BURN IT WITH FIRE!

You better sell your house now. I heard if the bees are Africanized it can lower your property value.

I have noticed an uptick in bee activity recently. I have walked past this nest every day not knowing it was just a foot away.
Will the wasps smell the fear on me now that I know where they are? There might be 2,000 of them in there.

However, if you do not find the wasps' nest until late summer or fall, destroying the nest may not be necessary (depending on your location) as freezing nighttime temperatures will kill the colony off naturally. Then you can simply dispose of the nest come winter.

That's not a beehive. It's a hat. Try it on!
