Oh c'mon now....Beet is well known for his literacy. Just because he spells his name R-E-D doesn't mean he can't read and type coherent words and sentences. :jj:

    Child Support
Children need financial support from their parents (even if they are losers) – and they have a legal right to it. When parents separate or divorce, they should try to agree on the amount of child support. If they ask a court to decide, the court will use guidelines to determine child support payments. Some child support guidelines fall under federal law, while others are under provincial or territorial law. The guidelines that apply depend on the family's situation.
This website provides general information. Family law is complex. You are encouraged to contact a lawyer for help with family law issues.

[h=1]Understanding Mental Illness[/h]Mental illnesses can take many forms, just as physical illnesses do. Mental illnesses are still feared and misunderstood by many people, but the fear will disappear as people learn more about them. If you, or someone you know, has a mental illness, there is good news: all mental illnesses can be treated.
In this section, you will learn about mental illnesses – which can also be called psychiatric disorders – and their treatment. You will also find helpful resources that provide more information to further your understanding of mental illness.

    http://www.colgate.com/app/CP/US/EN...Basics/article/What-is-Good-Oral-Hygiene.cvsp

[h=1]What is Good Oral Hygiene?[/h]What is Good Oral Hygiene?
Good oral hygiene results in a mouth that looks and smells healthy. This means:

    • Your teeth are clean and free of debris
    • Gums are pink and do not hurt or bleed when you brush or floss
    • Bad breath is not a constant problem
If your gums do hurt or bleed while brushing or flossing, or you are experiencing persistent bad breath, see your dentist. Any of these conditions may indicate a problem.
Your dentist or hygienist can help you learn good oral hygiene techniques and can help point out areas of your mouth that may require extra attention during brushing and flossing.
How is Good Oral Hygiene Practiced?
Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well-being.
Daily preventive care, including proper brushing and flossing, will help stop problems before they develop and is much less painful, expensive, and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress.
In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. These include:

    • Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
    • Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
    • Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
    • Rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse if your dentist tells you to
    • Making sure that your children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in a non-fluoridated area.

INDEPENDENT LIVING AND MENTALLY RETARDED PERSONS
The Role of Independent Living Programs

by Carol K. Sigelman and Jerry D. Parham

    edited by Laurel Richards

by The Independent Living Research Utilization Project
    P.O. Box 20095 Houston, Texas 77025

The Issues in Independent Living series is produced by ILRU under a grant from NIHR, U.S. Department of Education. ILRU's goal is to improve the spread and utilization of results of research programs and demonstration projects in the field of independent living. It is affiliated with TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research) and Rehabilitation Research and Training Center No. 4.

The content of this publication is the responsibility of the grantee and no official endorsement by the department should be inferred.

    printed August 1981.

    FOREWORD

The role that independent living programs should take with regard to persons who are mentally retarded has long been a matter of debate between pragmatic and idealistic factions within the independent living movement. Some pragmatists question whether or not mentally retarded individuals are able to achieve that level of self-determination and self-direction which is the essence of living independently. Others wonder if independent living programs, presently operating at capacity, should extend themselves further by offering services to a population that already has a well-developed and apparently well-funded service network. Idealists, on the other hand, assert that the concept of independent living needs to be made available to all severely disabled individuals, including ones with mental retardation.

We wanted this addition to our Issues in Independent Living series to provide a formal treatment of the ramifications of independent living programs becoming service providers to mentally retarded persons. Consequently, we asked Carol Sigelman and Jerry Parham to write a monograph on the subject that would be introductory in scope. We particularly requested that they include a description of independent living as it pertains to individuals who are retarded and a discussion of how independent living programs can serve this population. Because the issues to be addressed were somewhat controversial, we knew that this monograph would be difficult to write, and we are very pleased with Carol's and Jerry's frank, well-documented, and objective treatment of the subject.

We know that much more needs to be said on this subject; neither we nor the authors intended for this monograph to cover the matter exhaustively. However, we hope that it will lead to a better understanding of the needs and abilities of mentally retarded persons, provide the impetus for development of new independence-oriented services for this population, and promote involvement by retarded persons in making decisions which affect their lives.
