I guess Lady Gaga is right.

Scientists May Have Finally Unlocked Puzzle of Why People Are Gay

Lesbians get it from fathers, gay men from mothers?

Has the riddle of human sexuality finally been cracked? A few scientists think so.
Scientists may have finally solved the puzzle of what makes a person gay, and how it is passed from parents to their children.

A group of scientists suggested Tuesday that homosexuals get that trait from their opposite-sex parents: A lesbian will almost always get the trait from her father, while a gay man will get the trait from his mother.

The hereditary link of homosexuality has long been established, but scientists knew it was not a strictly genetic link, because there are many pairs of identical twins who have differing sexualities. Scientists from the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis say homosexuality seems to have an epigenetic, not a genetic link.

Long thought to have some sort of hereditary link, a group of scientists suggested Tuesday that homosexuality is linked to epi-marks — extra layers of information that control how certain genes are expressed. These epi-marks are usually, but not always, "erased" between generations. In homosexuals, these epi-marks aren't erased — they're passed from father-to-daughter or mother-to-son, explains William Rice, an evolutionary biologist at the University of California Santa Barbara and lead author of the study.

It's the equivalent of a birth defect, without necessary being "handicapped."

I figure that X years ago, someone would have to be born gay because who the hell would have wanted to be gay 50 years ago?

Now? Eh, it may be more of a choice for some because acceptance is better now.

The best description I ever read was in a book called 'Brain Sex'.........All embryos are female (ova) until the expression of genes on the 'Y' chromosome (if you have it) tell the gonads to start generating Testosterone (and become testes.).
And it is this powerful hormone that masculinizes the brain. The regions of the brain involved in Attraction and Identity are changed. If too little 'T' is exposed at certain times a male fetus may have 'female brain structure still for Attraction and/or Identity.
Or if too much 'T' is exposed at certain times a female fetus has 'Male' brain structures for Attraction and/or Identity.

Once a baby is born, the structure for these regions are set.
This too little or too much 'T' exposure to the fetal brain, could be for reasons outside of 'Gene' expression. (This could explain why 'Identical' twins could have different sexual attraction urges).

So,there is no "choice"........and it doesn't have to be Genetic.

And in no way should this 'Explanation' be flipped into a put down.

I've never heard of the identical twin thing. That's fascinating.
