Thought about this after someone made the comment about Levy being the worst sit-in comedian. Can no longer find that thread. But Belzer just fucking sucked with those snarky, weak comments during the news, only good thing was Howard picking on him about it. How the fuck that guy ever had any success is a mystery...

    Fucking corny dipshit... so goth...

I assume you are talking about years ago. If so, I couldn't disagree more. He was quick and witty with the comments. If he's been on again recently, I have no idea. His kind of comedy wouldn't fit the modern Howard.

I always enjoyed his appearances. I listened to all of them again just recently.

In the 70's he was part of the new wave of edgy comics and a peer of Carlin. He's pretty good in the film "The Groove Tube".

I was never a big fan of Belzer but he's certainly better than many of the horrible guests that the show trotted out in 2015. These days Stern fans are more likely to see Belzer on Alex Jones instead of the HSS.

I've laughed at something Belzer said before, that never happened with Levy.

Belz, like Gilbert, had an appreciation for the old time comedians and would bring that into the show sometimes - perhaps you're younger and didn't appreciate that.

Belzer was certainly a road comic and did his time in small clubs. Yes he's a liberal and always slipped in those shots at republicans - but back when the HSS was funny, Stern would push back at his comments - so that tension made it funny too.

    This
Belzer was hysterical. He was perfect for the show at the time.

"never shutting the fuck up because you're strung out on coke" doesn't equal "quick"

on his best day, he never batted higher than .175 when sitting in for the news.

on top of being almost completely unfunny, he always struck me as a major phony.

Let us not forget that without Belzer, we wouldn't have the classic Chevy Chase home call. Love him both on the show and as Munch.
