in honor of Halloween I am looking for good horror novels to read. I have read all of Stephen King, HP lovecraft, and Dean Koontz so I want something different. Anyone?

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. This one is a slow burn, but so so good.

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It's an excellent true crime novel about HH Holmes and has a lot of content about architecture and the construction of the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, as well.

Gerald's Game by Stephen King is my favorite of his books. I also remember his book Insomnia freaked me out so badly that when I stayed up late to read it I was terrified to run 15 feet from my couch to my bedroom in my dark apartment.

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris is tremendous. Everyone knows the story by now, but that was the book that sort of kicked off the whole forensic/thriller craze and it was better than anything that succeeded it. In fact, I always preferred it to its sequel, Silence of the Lambs.

I've read House of Leaves which is a true mindfuck. I've also read the majority of Poe. I want something good in the latter part of the 20thor 21st century.

Joe Hill is great! Heart Shaped Box and Horns are really good. He's Stephen King's song but can really hold his own and then some.
If you like the undead with a certain Gen X or Y or Z or something, I found an indie author named Jack Wallen, who has written quite a few series, but the one I started with is the ' I, Zombie' series. First book is I, Zombie, I. I love his modern quirkiness and each book I read was interesting through to the end. This is only if you are into post-apocalyptic themes. Hope this helps.
