have they reached their goal or is the project still languishing trolling for more suckers to contribute. i don't listen to the show anymore so i haven't kept up with the BFF saga.
someone would think howard could write a check for the remainder needed. is the money already raised in an interest bearing account?
i'm not familiar with charitable organizations finances. we had a great benefit at the improv last week and raised money for the greyhounds which go directly for their care and transporting them to forever homes.

All good questions...I haven't heard any mention of this so called "project" in a long time. I would love to see a reporter with some balls do a story on this and expose Howard and Beth for the frauds that they are. Of course after it's been printed, the reporter would be ruined by an on air smear campaign that would go on for months.

I posted this last year when the subject arose, but I think it remains just as true today:

Howard could pay for the entirety of the Bianca's Furry Friends construction project with the change from petty cash, if he so desired. But give him credit for understanding that it's in his best interest to drag out this "fundraising" phase of the project for as long as humanly possible. Beyond the simple ego considerations, Howard knows that this undertaking is largely what's keeps Beth relevant (lower case "r") in the Hamptons' social circles. She gains a certain measure of enhanced legitimacy, minute as it may be, from the Bianca's Furry Friends annex that her work as a NSAL spokesperson alone doesn't provide. And it's a heightened status level that she's going to be loathe to surrender once the new wing of the shelter is complete.
This equates to a future headache for Howard when it eventually comes time to invent the next BethO high society status booster. Might as well put it off for as long as possible, because these supplemental vanity projects are only increasing in expense and complexity. The book was relatively easy on Howard. The only significant expense there was in buying up all the printed copies of the damn thing after it was published. Bianca's Furry Friends is significantly more involved. Who knows how much more of a pain in the ass the next one will be. And let's face it, it's not like the CEO of NSAL gives a shit when this project gets completed. As long as $400K keeps on magically finding its way into his bank account every year and the champagne fountain at the Waldorf Astoria doesn't break down, he'll be as happy as a pig in shit for however long it may take.

I find this all sickening. Us peasants get IRS audited for the smallest questionable infraction and God only knows what is going with this project. 3 years, huge celebrity donations, extravagant fundraisers and not a peep about the progress of this project. It's fucking ponderous.

With all the poor people in this country and this world I am not a big supporter of donating money to make animals lives more pleasant. With that said at least you can SEE where the late Sam Simons money went to.

I posted this thought in a related thread a few weeks ago but I firmly believe the money allegedly needed will never be raised (as has been pointed out - Stern could have written the check in 10 seconds if his real goal was to build a shelter rather than giving Mooseclaw something to do). If the tote ever actually gets to $7 million, the funds needed will magically become $9 million. As long as there is a need to feed Beff's sorry ego and give her some gold digging cover, this will go on.

For those fans of "Catch-22" this will sound familiar...just as Yossarian could not fly enough missions to go home because the CO kept increasing the required number, the required amount of money to make these two thieves disappear will never be raised.

Please don't tell me that Simon gave this thing to "Admiral" Paul Watson and the rest of the Sea Sheptards.
