I did some checking on the things Howard said today. The tornados in Alabama were in the Spring and Leon was adopted in August, so he didn't sit in a cage at NSAL for a year like Howard said. According to Beth's blog, she adopted him as soon as he was available after his recovery from pneumonia. The story about the animal shelter being destroyed with Leon as the only survivor is also questionable. Both NSAL's press release and the Alabama newspapers mention NSAL taking pets from local shelters due to overcrowding after the storm, but nothing about a shelter being damaged. If the devastation was so complete that all the pets except Leon were killed, how did the records about his former owner remain intact? Also, Leon's weight when Beth adopted him was 18 lbs., now he's 22. Sounds like the "animal expert" doesn't know how to properly care for her pets.
