Black & White Photos of the London Fog

My paternal grandparents were from the UK and actually modestly wealthy, owned a hardware shop there from what I understand. As a child I couldn't understand why they decided to leave a country with such a rich history like the UK to move to a rather lousy part of Los Angeles.

Seeing these pictutres I understand why, although they never really escaped the fog.

I lived in the NYC area for the first 30 years of my life and it never occurred to me how much sun and clear skies we have compared to the rest of the world. After living in Europe, the grey skies can last for months at a time during the winter time. I'm very affected by it. It must have been unbearable the shitty weather in England plus the coal smog added in for good measure. Fantastic pictures... Cheerio.

I live in the UK, and I'd take the smoggy London of the last century over the glass buildings, bad traffic management and wall to wall fried chicken shops of today.. Not to mention they spoke English back then.
