i ordered a grill yesterday that was reviewed well for real wood-fire cooking. i was told by the rep that the delivery would be in just over 3 months (maybe sooner, if they catch up on orders). i really liked it, so i went ahead and bought it.

then, this morning on Flay's BBQ show, he used this exact same grill for almost the whole show. no wonder i can't get it quicker, probably boosts the sales every time that show runs. anyone else have one, or do you wood-fire grill on something else? cheers and good eats.

That looks like some sort of hybrid Santa Maria style grill with the pulley system.. I'd love more details..

that's exactly correct. i even ordered the Argentine v-slot cooking surface, which is the South American version of the Santa Maria. the v-slots drain off into a drip tray so there's no flare ups and uneven temps.

We have a wood fire grill. I would rather have propane or a simple hibachi. When you are having dinner parties the wood fire is great. You plan ahead. You go searching for some apple wood and bring that home. The day comes and you start the fire hours before anyone shows up. Yaddah yaddah yaddah everyone says thank you and leaves. Then what? Many times I am alone working and would like to have say two cheeseburgers. If I had a Hibachi I could take a few charcoals in a coffee can chimney and light them. Then I could put them in the Hibachi and heat the grilling grate, cook my two cheeseburgers and toast my buns while tearing some lettuce and slicing an onion and a tomato. An hour later the dishes would be done and the fire would be just about out.

But we have a wood fire grill. <<<sigh.>>>
