Most people here probably don't care, but they were a huge, very popular death metal band from the UK going back to the 80's. Some of you guys might like them even if you're not crazy about growling. Lots of good straight forward songs, catchy riffs, good entry level death:

Saw them at Club 616 here in Memphis in 199....1? The death metal band I was in at the time was named Profane Creation after one of their songs, and Karl seemed amused by that, especially since my guitarist had it on a patch on the back of his jacket. I remember them being way taller than I imagined.

Kinda lost interest in them after a while, their albums started all sounding the same. First song I ever heard from them was "World Eater" from the Grind Crusher 2 compilation (great comp, btw).

any music with a double bass pedal is shit. played the first track and there's no need for it. the rest of the music is good, but the drumming is too distracting and cheapens it.

Same... I haven't listened to them in ages, but just happened to recently dig out some of their albums and then catch this news. I was just going to write them a note...

Going to load them all up in my ipod this week.

Still haven't checked out their new shit... Swan Song left a really bad taste in my mouth and honestly, I only ever really cared for their first two albums, especially the first. I'll give that a listen.

Heartwork was kinda stank-ass too

not fond of the melodic stuff

edit: Best stuff since Heartwork I'd say, but still not really my thing. Incantation are still the kings in my book :grad:

they were OK, I was more of a suburbanite thrash fan, the big 4 plus Exodus, Overkill, Maiden, Suicidal, etc.

Dabbled in heavier stuff but never stuck to it. We used to trade tapes and CDs with each other back then; across genres for dissatisfied buyers. I remember trading away The IVth Crusade or whatever its called for the big Prong album. I regretted that for years but now everything is free on Youtube anyway so who cares. I never actually went back and listened to the Bolt Thrower or the Prong so I guess it didn't matter.

the other thing I remember about Bolt Thrower is that UFC fighter Josh Barnett used it as a song to walk out to the cage which was pretty cool. Don't hear that kind of thing every day in sports, even in cage fighting. I think he may have used it or other similar type songs in Japan mma too.

I always liked their name. It's up there with the death metal band "In the Woods."
