"Before I got chikungunya," she tweeted Saturday, linking the tweet to an Instagram photo of herself on a motorized personal watercraft in what media outlets have identified as French Polynesia. "Use . . . [bug] spray please," she added in her tweet. "God bless." In a tweet the following day, the 28-year-old Lohan wrote, "Being sick is no fun. But happy new year everyone. Be safe. Love all. Make a difference and keep your . . . , " followed by a link to an Instagram image that has since been taken down. Minutes later, in an Instagram photo of herself and two friends, she added, "In good faith with good people. I refuse to let a virus effect [sic] my peaceful vacation. Be safe and happy on the new year all." "It was a little scary," Lohan's mother, Dina, of Merrick, told Newsday. "But she's OK. She's just texted me -- she's in L.A. flying home to New York. She was sick for a couple days really bad but now she's doing really well. It was definitely a scare." Symptoms, which include joint pain and swelling, fever, rash, headache, muscle pain, nausea and fatigue, appear four to seven days after a bite and last two to three days. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat it. In the photo with Lohan were celebrity stylist Patrick Aufdenkamp, a longtime friend, and Fabienne Bratschi, a former model and one-time Miss Switzerland contender who has a home with her husband and daughter on Bora Bora, French Polynesia.
