whos drinkin with me?
You've come a long way, baby.
I actually like Zakk Wylde quite a bit. My only criticism is that I think he relies a little too much on the whammy bar effect - almost to the point of using it as a crutch at times. He's too damned good to need any gimmicks.
ummm theres no whammy bar on his guitar LOL
I realize that, but that's not the only way the effect can be achieved. And I'm not knocking the guy, I really do like his music. It's just that I personally find the effect distracting on many of his songs. Doomsday Jesus is an example that immediately comes to mind.
Its called pentatonic scale and its his style ,his music is kick ass thats all that matters .Theres nothing to knock just shake your head and agree....
I'm not 100% sure we're talking about the same thing. Listen to the little flourishes at the 00:51 mark in the above Doomsday Jesus video as an example. There are about four or five of them in rapid succession. I just find them to be little distracting, that's all.
ITS NOTHING LIKE A WHAMMY BAR
I think your talking about the squeal, or pinch harmonic, not using the tremolo, but can be very annoying.
Also, I think I'm going to start drinking to the point of retardation.
Those are pinch harmonics and that's Zakk's thing that makes him who he is. Kind of like The Edge with his delays. My favorite Zakk album is the Rock Star movie soundtrack. My God do those songs kick ass.
So would vibrato be a more accurate description of this effect?
Anyway, appreciate the link.
Ah, pinch harmonics, got it. Thanks, guys.
Guess I just prefer his songs that don't rely so heavily on that effect.
A lot of of people get annoyed by it. He really does rely on it too much. But, he's painted himself into an artistic corner and he always has to play like "Zakk" now. Those EMG active pickups he uses make it easy to get those squeals. If you want to sound like him, throw EMG's(81's and 85's I think) into your guitar.
Thanks for filling in the blanks, RSH. I didn't realize that this was a preexisting topic of discussion.
Apologies to @ItsAWholeThing for needlessly sidetracking a good thread.
ya he sucks
always loved zakk wylde but i dont really have to hear too much of him. i also think that him and dimebag darrell also shared the same style of aggressive twangy playing.
You hear any of those on this album?
Fuck, that is some amazingly beautiful hair. He could do Pantene commercials, assuming a grown man isn't wearing a weave or wig, Howard excluded.
No need to mention the body.
