Premise was three best friends from orphanage get adopted by the Brady's neighbors. Looks like something a priest would enjoy.

That's so stupid . Everyone knows white kids get the best bed .
That show tune faggotry at the end looks like something Mr. Brady would have liked to be a part of .

Mr Brady moves in with Dennis Hastert and there are all kinds of wacky hijacks,

Writers just couldn't make it work.

Yeah, this was a common technique in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Backdoor pilot. Have an episode that is centered around other characters with some limited interaction from the main characters. They hope to spin the show off as a series. Married with Children must have done 4 of these during their run. They almost never get picked up and if they do, almost never find an audience.

Very true, for some reason Happy Days had success with this formula with Laverne and Shirley and later Mork and Mindy.

Apparently it was also very important to showcase Ken Berry's dancing.

Except that neither of those shows was intentionally being showcased as a spinoff. The episodes were so popular that they decided to create a spinoff.

Wasn't Chachi developed into a love interest to create the spin off "Joanie Loves Chachi"?

Chachi was on the show long before the romantic link to Joanie. He was a kid who hit on her but it wasn't until Ron Howard and Donnie Most left that they developed Joanie and Chachi into a bigger partof the show.
