I never watched one second of it for fear it would help the ratings. Now I swear on my stack of sticky Cheryl Tiegs pictures that I will never ever miss the show next year.

The show is so dead and off the radar, how could ratings go up

Unless, the next judge is, unlike Howard, someone people want to see

What if Simon Cowell is the judge and does his brutal honesty bit, not caring what people think, like on Idol and everybody loves it and Simon becomes a bigger star?

Isn't that what Howard should've done? Why didn't he? Why didn't Howard just be Howard?

I suspect that the show bought into Howard to provide such an edge, but like everyone else, was bamboozled and misled not being informed that his own agenda was to create a kinder, more appealing vanilla version that would "play in Peoria."

30% of their 2011 viewers never bothered to tune in once the wigged wonder took his chair, that's a nice chunk of people to try and regain,

Stern was on that shit show for 4 years? God time flies, never saw a minute of it but had to endure a few commercials during football. Even the commercials sucked.

The ignorance of current TV ratings and downward trends in traditional viewing is staggering here

That's the whole problem. ... Howard was Howard on the show. He joined in what '11? Oh yeah....he was himself. His evolved self.

Robin, what I did was save the show from itself. There were a bunch of worthless viewers, about 30% that NBC didn't want anymore, I got rid of those, NOW the viewers are 100% AGT fans. I came in and purged what a moron like Piers Morgan couldn't...right Robin?.....Robin????

Following last year’s catastrophic decline in television ratings, studio executives who were biting their nails in anticipation of a turnaround -- or a miracle -- should brace themselves for more disappointment. May was yet another challenging month for the TV industry, with ratings down considerably across various broadcast and cable networks, according to new research from MoffettNathanson. Declines were seen in both prime-time and total-day viewership, and if there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, it’s not visible yet.

“[W]e are seeing no real signs that the trends are materially improving,” said Michael Nathanson, the firm’s media analyst, in a research note. “The jury will be out until midsummer.”

Analyzing data from Nielsen Media, MoffettNathanson tracked 18-to-49-age viewership across cable networks owned by the seven largest media companies, in addition to the “big four” broadcasters. The firm found that, compared to May of last year, total-day ratings were down 6 percent on cable and 14 percent on broadcast. The drop was even steeper for prime time, with cable declining 7 percent and broadcast 16 percent.
