Candidate Ben Carson has surpassed Donald Trump in the RealClearPolitics (RCP) polling average, taking the top spot for the first time this presidential election cycle.

Carson now stands at 25.3 percent support in the national polling index, a full percentage point ahead of Trump. Trump had been atop the index since mid-June, shortly after he launched his campaign.
Carson and Trump have traded first place in several recent polls.

The soft-spoken retired neurosurgeon has been surging in polls for the past couple of months, cutting into the celebrity real estate tycoon's massive lead over the GOP field.

Donald Trump’s 106-day reign atop the RealClearPolitics national polling average is officially over.

Trump took the lead in the running average—which is widely used to provide a polling snapshot of the Republican nominating contest—for the first time on July 20, when he inched past then-leader Jeb Bush, 16.8 percent to 14.8 percent. On Wednesday, the blustery billionaire was finally knocked from his perch by Ben Carson.

Trump’s lead was at its largest—at more than 14 points—in late August and early September as Bush fell away and Carson began his rise. Trump reached his high-water mark of 30.5 percent on Sept. 16, the day of the second GOP debate.

The meaning of Ben Carson’s stunning rise
It’s very meaningful that the surgeon Ben Carson appears to be taking the lead in the polling for the GOP nomination — but not in the ways you might expect.

First, it means Donald Trump has stalled out. Given Trump’s standing atop the polls for four months now, if his candidacy had any momentum whatsoever, he should have risen from the mid-20s to the mid-30s.

The voters who should have started to break his way over the past two months seem instead to be moving to Carson. You can see this in the Real Clear Politics poll average. It shows Carson has risen to 24 percent from 10 percent on Aug. 30. Trump was at 23.5 percent and is now at 25.

Though Trump bounced up a bit in September, the fact that he’s where he was two months ago indicates he has secured the support of the people he has and isn’t gaining any more.

Carson seems completely insane to me. One of those guys who's competent in their job, but underneath is madness, and they are desperate to hold it in.

No it just proves that Christians still wield a massive amount of power. I have no problem with that.
