i think i speak for everyone when i say
I used to like listening to his show, but when he started doing the disclaimer it wasn't as much fun anymore.
You speak correctly, suh!
I wonder about you sometimes, Hendry. You may fold under questioning.
He was a big deal in L.A. radio in the 90s -- so big that Howard Stern (our Howard) would fly out to his studio just to watch him do his show.
Phil Hendrie has many different voices -- a surfer dude, a young black woman, an old black woman, a Latino, and Middle Easterner, an old black guy, a young black guy, an old white lady, a young white lady, and many, many different white men.
I think he has 64 voices in all, or something like that.
And he'll introduce one of the voices as a "guest" without telling the audience.
And the "guest" will say something outrageous.
And he'll have a seamless conversation between himself and the voice.
Which prompts many angry listeners to call in -- there is always somebody who doesn't know that it's all a put-in.
It's pretty fantastic.
One time in the 90s, I drove all night from San Francisco to L.A.
And during that time, one of his voices played the general manger of the radio station, who fired Hendrie during his shift and went to an Spanish-language format.
It was fucking hilarious.
Here's a 2001 local TV news profile of him, followed by some of his best work.
(In the last video, at the 2 minute mark, Hendrie voices a 16-year-old boy talking Sandusky with an older guy, also voiced by Hendrie.)
Phil get off my thread.
To me the guy is/was the most talented radio personality/personality's ever.
A true genius with a penchant for ball busting like no other.
Howard Stern does the voice of his mother and father. Sometimes, it's almost as though his mother is in the studio, checking his underwear. I can't tell.
Yeah, but can he era, do Ted Kennedy?
how many times has he done that??
She's in his head so even when he isn't imitating her, he's still doing her voice. I remember an ETM clip where Howard was complaining that "I do everything for this guy and what do I get, I mean, what is that?"
I heard it once in 1997, and another time in 2011. Howard almost never repeats a bit.
This has been coming for 2-3 years now. And it's what Phil probably wanted. He's been mailing it in now for at least that long, I had a Backstage Pass from his website for a long time, watching the video feed before and during his show, Phil has legit kind of gone batshit crazy, he's very bitter. I KIND of get it, the dude is hands down the most talented guy in radio, maybe EVER, but he's made constant bad decisions with his career and it's left him basically broke and bitter.
He had TONS of momentum going with this career back 10 years go or so but he decided he'd rather be an actor/voice guy instead and that's what screwed him, he really has nobody to blame but himself..
i thought he had his own gig at home with a podcast or some shit
He does his show from his house but it's syndicated through TRN...and he has his "Backstage Pass" where you can buy a membership and watch his show live and have access to downloads of almost all his shows ever..used to me $7 a month, best deal going but I think he's doubled that now..
The Florida Gator Brigade and Texas Range Rovers have lowerd their flags to half mast.
I was born and raised in the L.A. basin, and I grew up listening to the radio. As an adult, I drove about a 100,000 miles a year doing sales and listened to news and talk radio all day.
And I have still never heard of this guy!
EDIT: No wonder, he was on KFI, I never listened to that station.
