Unhappy Browns fan here. Hated this hire when first heard the news...then realized they absolutely nailed it. DePodsta will thrive, and he's a Cleveland fan. He will define NFL analytics.

It's an interesting move for sure. It does show that they are at least trying to think outside of the box and do something new. That organization certainly needs some fresh ideas. He comes from a winning organization, so he knows how to succeed. Wether or not the idiot ownership will get out of his way or not, we'll see.

God I hope so, but I don't have much faith. It's amazing we have any fans left.

I don't see the downside. Hope Josh Gordon gets his act together, so much talent up in smoke so far.

Think they have good chance to turn a corner. DePodesta turned FIVE baseball teams around. He is smart enough to know what he is doing.

So you say, traditionalists said it also wouldn't work in baseball. I think it will work to some degree in all sports.

Hadn't thought of that. Haslam will respect this guy when things get rolling. He'll be around for a long time.

Baseball is a one on one sport disguised as a team sport. Football is 22 guys going all three different directions

It's still a Jimmy Haslam operation. He probably wants to learn new techniques to skim more money off of truckers and not get caught by the Feds this time around.

I get your point, and a good one. Thought Kelly would. High powered Oregon offense and blew up the Eagles

In mostly one on one match ups. And even if you add in the randomness of individual match ups on plays you can still find a mathematical edge in areas like going for it more often on 4th down or maximizing yards per play by passing more and running less.

It won't work. Not because of depodesta, but because Haslem will Browns it up. The next two teams who do it, however, will both go to the super bowl within 5 years.
