A Bucks County band teacher is to be arraigned today on charges she sexually assaulted a 14-year-old student in 2012, officials said. The District Attorney's Office said Bridgett Szychulski, 31, was a teacher at the Lenape Middle School in Doylestown when she had a sexual relationship with the boy. According to a statement from Central Bucks School District released Tuesday morning, Szychulski was suspended on Friday, and district superintendent David Weitzel has banned her from all district properties or contacting any students while her case is pending. Assistant District Attoreny Matthew Lannetti said the case was reported to Childline in the middle of last week - he did not say who reported it - and that the DA's Office began investigating immediately. Central Bucks School District was "very, very cooperative," he said, and allowed authorities "whatever we needed" to investigate the case. Szychulski is to be charged with deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault, officials said. The district's statement said Szychulski had taught in the district for seven years and was most recently a band teacher at Central Bucks South High School. Lannetti said Szychulski was expected to turn herself into authorities Tuesday morning, before an afternoon arraignment in front of District Judge Regina Armitage in New Britain. District Attorney David Heckler praised Central Bucks School District officials for promptly reporting the alleged sexual assault as soon as it came to their attention, saying, "This has not always been the case in other schools districts in the past." Heckler's office said anyone who may have had "inappropriate contact" with the teacher should call Det. Mark Zielinski at 215-348-6629.
