Anyone have any opinions on these two options? Assuming mileage restrictions aren't a major concern in this case. I keep reading about needing to be careful with leasing but the reasoning seems a bit fuzzy. Would love to get some opinions!

We lease both our cars and love it. Upgrade to new every 2 to 3 years. Nice monthly lease prices. They take care of the oil changes prices and any mechanical issues that come up (luckily we haven't had any in all our years of leasing).

Well thats the thing. I am actually going to be buying or leasing a car for my 73 year old Mother. She is still fairly active but doesn't drive as much as she used to at all.

Lease is you're a really good and careful driver. Buy if you're more careless and reckless.

I am in the car biz and I say in this case lease for sure payments should be very low and you should be under warranty through the whole lease

If you think she'll stop driving altogether in 3-4 years, then lease it. If she'll drive until 80+, then buy.

No sir. Your mother isn't traveling over 15,000 miles a year. I think you are fine.

But if you have good credit you can roll everything in the lease

It seems unless you drive a lot of miles, plan to keep your car for 5+ years, or you can sell the car yourself, they get you coming or going.

To me leasing is dumb. Here put down a few grand, pay the monthly payments then after a couple few years give it back and start over.

I'd rather own thw car after. But that's my opinion.

Buy a reliable car that's a couple years old and drive it until it dies. I drive an '06 Acura. Great car, haven't made a payment in over 5 years.

I lease all the time. Rule # 1.Always pay $0 down! They have deals all the time with $0 down. Then all you are paying is the monthly fee. After 36 months , new car, new technology. Granted I only drive 9K miles a year.

I'm with you but in the case of my Mom I just want to keep her in a new ride that has as small a chance as possible of leaving her on the side of the road....
