Howard related because he owns guns, watches Fox News all day long, loves cock, and pretends to be a liberal.

Get the gun that Budd Dwyer used. It was proven to be quite effective at close range during a live demonstration on television.

Get a Smith & Wesson 22A. Fun, cheap to shoot, reasonably accurate, very little recoil. Maybe $350. Don't jump off the deep end. Visit a range and try out their range guns (generally crapped out weapons IMHO but you can try before you buy). Everybody seems to like those Tupperware Glock semi-autos. I'm a lot more inclined to purchase S&W revolvers.

Or a S&W 586, not too much kick if you're shooting .38 Specials or .38 +P. I'd avoid .357, though the revolver is engineered to fire them.

Never bought one, but one of the people that worked at a range/gun store I went to said to go to a range where you have the ability to try out different guns and see which one you like before buying.

CZ 75 SP-01. I have a CZ 75, but not the SP, I didn't have the patience to wait for it. It's a beautiful gun, wish I had waited for the SP though.

Do not buy a Sig Sauer Mosquito. They jam like crazy.

If you want to go bigger caliber than a .22, a Glock 19 (9mm) is pretty nice.

I would definitely go to a gun shop with a range and shot various models. Maybe you can find one that offers a gun safety class. Since it is your first handgun, I would suggest you stay away from the glocks.

Not to begin with, but the S&W 629 is IMHO a perfect revolver if you're shooting .44 Specials. .44 Mag is just too hot, uncontrollable.

Excellent balance with the full-length underlug. Surprisingly accurate. My favorite revolver.

If this is your first handgun and you don't have a lot of experience get a revolver. Revolvers are super safe and are going to fire when you want them to.

Revolvers are so fucking cool. I want to buy a revolver for my next gun, but with Obama spouting non-sense, and people repeating it as fact, I feel like I should buy an AR while I still can.

AR clones are fun and easy to build. I really enjoy projects like that. Buy a complete upper receiver, build the lower, which is the part the ATF considers to be a weapon.

I think the gun grabbers are going to go after ammunition rather than trying to ban a particular class of weapon.

Go to a range and try a few first. Don't be afraid to spend money.....around 500.00 is where you should start. Glock is a good first gun as they take very little maintenance. I would try a Glock 19, a Smith and Wesson M&P (compact or a shield), and a Sig p320c.

Buy two, that way when you shoot the unarmed black guy you can plant the other one on the body.
