I like it, never have to reboot and always seems to run smoothly. Big upgrade from XP, not as much of one from 7 since 8 is pretty much 7 with that start screen I never use, since I stick strictly to desktop. If I had touchscreen capabilities, probably a different story, but for a trackball/mouse/keyboard user the new interface is pretty useless.

Windows 8 is basically windows 7 with a shell operating on top.

you cant ask a geek anything about software.

a real geek will says all windows sucks and insult you for needing it.
a wanabe geek will give some long big worded answer that does zero in helping you make a decision

youl be fine with windows 8

It's not buggy and it boots up fast. You won't use the win 8 interface unless you have a tablet, though.

    Win 7/8>XP

win 8 is an "overlay" over 7. if you have a desktop or laptop, you won't use it

it's really optimized for the Surface tablet.

so when you boot up it starts at win 8. you'll hit the "desktop" pane 99% of the time to get back to that familiar GUI. you'll also want to d/l the start button...just google win 8 start button there's a free d/l that reinstalls it...it's missing on win 8 which is annoying
