So the Lions are going to suck even harder next year. In other words, back to normal.

31 yo, he's walking away from a lot of money, His health is more important, good for him, not a decision I'd be able to make. A dishonest man would have faked a back injury and collect another years salary.

Actually, the Lions had a lot of cap space coming their way already next year as they had the most dead money in the NFL this season and that was coming off the books. Johnson retiring will give the Lions even more. Johnson has been unable to bring it for all 16 games of a season for a couple of years now. New management will have no excuses if it messes this up. A better than typical (for Detroit) draft and sound free agent spending could put the Lions in a really good position. Losing Calvin sucks, but chances are they were only going to really have him for maybe half the season as injuries would have really brought down his production n

He better be ready to give back that bonus money. about 3.5 mil.

If they took it back from Barry Sanders, they'll be taking it back from Megatron.

He and Barry Sanders deserved much better than being trapped in Detroit.

good for him that he's grounded enough that he doesn't have to play until he's utterly broken just to keep food in his belly

He'll be back. He had a dead rotting bird around his neck in Detroit.

I wonder if all the concerned sensitive souls who worry about NFL players health feel the same about construction workers knees and joints.

Congrats, Lions fans. Schwartz and Caldwell were able to totally squander all the talent on the team so long, that talent no longer exists.

Anyone watching the pro bowl? I just tuned in. Which team is which?(like it matters) In the score graphic, Irvin is orange and Rice is blue yet, neither of those colors are on either uniform.

Over/under on how many years the pro bowl will continue to be played - 1 1/2
