Im going to be looking for one in a few weeks. I dont plan on leasing but would I be better off going to a used car place and making Payments and putting a down payment on something or going thru something like Craigslist?

are there any carmax or Autonation stores around? Those 2 are really the best spots to get a good deal on a pre-owned vehicle.

yup. Those 2 places I mentioned have financing onsite. Depending on your credit rating, you may need a co-signer.

$1200 will get you something with high miles and lots of wear. If you plan to go that way, buy a ford taurus or a nissan altima ( my taurus ran with over 250K miles until I sold it, and I rode it hard for a few years ). Maybe a toyota corolla.

I would suggest, and this is only my 2 cents, you don't get involved in payments with a creditor. Get something and own it outright.

Don't forget insurance; depending on your history, this could cost more than the payments on the car itself.

those are 2 huge strikes. Probably can't get financing.

so, your only other option is finding a $1200 car...

Just looking at the New Jersey craigslist used car section, anything below $2000 either has the check engine light or needs some sort of work. I'm cool working on cars, so this doesn't normally bother me, but don't know about you. All you need is to break down once and be stuck ( and btw, be sure to get AAA for $50 a year, well worth it ).

I'd suggest you suffer and save for a while longer. I know it sucks, but in the long run it's best.

If you go with payments they usually want full coverage insurance on you're car until you pay it off , If you go with buying out right don't forget you will still need Tax and title transfer cash on top.

Of you can swing payments and full coverage insurance , That would be the way to go, You would probably get a newer car. There are a lot of used car places that will get you a car loan even if you have bad credit :dontknow:
