I do not even know if this is possible - but it would be great if they could see how the listeners tune off when there are certain guests - for me Jim Bruer and David Arquette. Anybody out there in the radio business???

Through the various internet/mobile apps, yes. You don't need much to do statistical sampling. Sirius already knows what people listen to the most.

Online and with apps they can. So they know what people listen to. It would be interesting.

Neither Howard nor Sirius would ever allow those numbers to be released.

I am not sure of that. If wigs lack of audience could clear the way for Malone/sxm outta his contract they would definitely fall on the sword to get rid of Howard and his bloated paycheck.

Advertisers need to know what they're paying for, in other words the bottom of the barrel commercials just scream low ratings. ;)

Sirius can't keep their internet stream running for 2 hour continuous so i kinda doubt they can tell what people are listening to

That is a wicked deal breaker isnt it?

I seriously cant stand that. What can be done to keep it on!!

I get listening to something and then its gone out of no where and when I restart it, its not where it was when I went off...

IHEART AND TUNEIN dont have that problem!

Yeah, essentially outside of census reports, there's no real way to determine who's listening to what.

My brother-in-law was all over Sirius radio when it first came out but had nothing but problems with the units/signal at various times of the year. He said he'd much rather get shit radio for free after that. Howard is shit radio for pay. It's a no-brainer.

Yes. They have done that to set the advertising rates. Its just like any other ratings system

Just google Howard Stern Sirius ratings. The last real ratings are from 2007. One week 1.2 million listeners in total. 200-250K per day.
    =
    Today about 70K

The funniest thing was when Sirius had a free Howard Stern internet promotion. Listen free to the king of all media. Result = 100K streams in total 24/h.

Howard is irrelevant. The only reason why he have a job and get new jobs are because of his tribes mates. They look after each other.

You also have to factor in that there are at least 8 people listening to each radio and online stream.

If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it still make a sound?

it happens constantly. i leave the net stream on as noise in the apt while i'm at the office. every time i check the stream has stopped and i have to restart it. i've called and asked about it repeatedly but the people who answer the phone seem to be people they hired off the street with no understanding at all.

Well in the first generation of SIRIUS radios when their fm modulators actually were worth the components used to make it you could make that argument. My whole block could listen in on my radio. But not anymore.

probably not. as i understand it sounds are what living things call what how they interpret pressure waves in the air. so using that definition, if nothing alive is around then there is no sound, just pressure waves. it's one of those things that is defined by experience, so something has to be there to experience it? using that definition, if a tape recorder is there but no living thing is there, did the recorder record a sound? i think the answer is no, but if the recording is played back in the presence of something living then a sound is heard.

english makes for all sorts of fun and useless issues.
